2010 Cadillac SRX Revealed at Pebble Beach
Cadillac’s midsize crossover, the SRX launched in 2004, hasn’t been all that well received, at least compared to the CTS it’s based upon. But GM’s luxury division plans to change all that with its second-generation wagon-cum-SUV, based on the attractive Provoq concept that showed up in Detroit earlier this year.
Cadillac unveiled its new SRX at Pebble Beach yesterday, the updates crossover sports many of the details that have made its recently rejuvenated four-door sedan sibling such a major hit. Lots of chrome, cool engine vents and wickedly sharp edges make the new SRX a stronger styling statement and therefore should attract trend-setting families.
“The next-generation SRX is the result of the continued exploration and refining of Cadillac design language, with the goal of creating dramatic presence in the luxury crossover space,” commented Clay Dean, Cadillac design director.
Cadillac is keeping quiet about the details, but it’s a done deal that the brand’s 3.6-liter V6 will get the nod, probably in the same two configurations as offered with the CTS. In fact, look to the CTS as an example of features the new SRX will include.
The new SRX will strictly be a five-seater, with Cadillac leaving family hauling duties to its larger Escalade. Cadillac also showed Pebble Beach attendees its new CTS Sport Wagon, which it intends to sell in North America even thought admitting that the majority of sales will more than likely occur in Europe, where luxury wagons are extremely popular.
“The next-generation SRX, along with the new CTS Sport Wagon, showcases Cadillac taking its dramatic design into new directions, particularly cars and crossovers that are the right size at the right time for today’s luxury consumers,” added Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager.
The new SRX will arrive in Cadillac showrooms in mid-2009.
