Specifications

Honda’s motto for the 2010 Civic may as well have been “Change is bad.” Compared to last year’s model, there are very few differences here. While some may see that as laziness or indifference on Honda’s part, there’s really no reason to mess with a winning formula. The 2010 Honda Civic may be nearly the same as last year, but it carries on the carmaker’s long tradition of great vehicles. Here’s our review of Honda’s latest offering:

Exterior Design

The exterior styling of the 2010 Honda Civic is almost identical to those of 2009. It remains a fairly stylish vehicle, especially with the added spoiler. If it’s big change you’re looking, you may want to hold out for the 2011 Honda Civic, which is rumored to have an all-new body style.

Interior Design

Like the exterior, the 2010 Honda Civic interior is also largely unchanged from last year. It’s still plenty spacious, but the odd design choices from before are still intact. For instance, Honda’s decision to place the digital speedometer on the dash, as opposed to with the rest of the instrument panel, remains a head scratcher. Obviously, the speedometer is still in your line of sight, but the odd location can be a bit jarring at first.

Gas Mileage

With so many different models available, it can be difficult keeping track of all the varied gas mileage ratings for the Civic. Fortunately, Honda has simplified things this year, with most Civic trims getting about 25mpg city and 35mpg highway. The Civic Si model is lower at 21mpg city and 29 mpg highway, thanks to a bigger engine. Of course, the Hybrid version attains the best fuel economy out of the group, at about 40mpg city and 45mpg highway. No matter which model you go with, you can definitely take confidence in the Civic’s ability to get the most out of your gas tank.

Safety and Reliability

As always, the 2010 Honda Civic ranks among the top in its class for virtually every important safety rating. It received 5 stars in almost every major test and pulled in at least 4 for the rest. Antilock brakes and Electronic Brake Distribution come standard on the Civic, both of which can help prevent accidents during hard stops. Every Civic also includes front side and side curtain air bags in case of an accident. The Honda Civic has always been known for its reliability and the 2010 version should be no different. If history is any indication, the next Civic line should hold a great resale value for years to come.

Conclusion

Clearly, Honda knows when they have a good thing on their hands and isn’t trying to fix something that isn’t broken. The 2010 Honda Civic brings more of the same compared to previous generations, with excellent fuel economy, high safety ratings, and excellent resale value. Although the exterior and interior of the new Civic remains largely unchanged, there aren’t any serious complaints here. If you’re looking for a reliable and high quality sedan or coupe, the 2010 Honda Civic is one of, if not the, best option.
