2011 BMW 6 Series Preview

Release Date: Summer 2010

Not due in dealerships until late summer 2010, the 2011 BMW 6 Series Convertible and Coupe are going to be met with the highest of expectations. A new hardtop for the convertible seems to be in the works, replacing the soft-top design from previous years.

  • Pricing: MSRP: $78,500-$86,000
  • Engine: For 2011 the BMW 6 Series will now be powered by the same 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 at 535 horsepower that was available in the 7 Series for 2010.
  • Fuel Economy: Fuel economy is at 15/22 miles per gallon city and highway
  • Acceleration: Zero to sixty should take just a hair over 5.0 seconds
  • Transmission: Eight speed automatic with manual shift controls.
  • Car Safety Features: Antilock disc brakes with drying features, stability and traction control, side curtain airbags in the coupe and pop-up rollover hoops for the convertible and front knee airbags as well as front-seat side airbags.
  • Warranty: 5 years/50,000 miles.

Exterior Features

The new 6 Series will have a slightly longer wheelbase than earlier years and sit much closer to the ground as well, which should add to its sleek design as well as causing more cause for cringes as drivers go over speed bumps. The roofline has also been made sleeker and slimmer which may, unfortunately be the result of their lowering the amount of headspace available in the car.

Performance

With the new engine adapted from the BMW 7 Series, the 2010 BMW 6 Series model ought to be a powerhouse of a performer. Delivery of BMW-quality driving experiences along with the new engine and transmission combination is sure to result in some speed-limit excessive driving.
