Review

A huge array of engine options make the 2011 Dodge Challenger a worthwhile sport coupe for many drivers to consider. Its starting MSRP hovers right around $24K; to get the top trim, though, you'll pay closer to $42K, minimum. Rear-wheel drive is the only available option, while a five-speed automatic and a six-speed manual are both available. Depending on what's important to you, the 2011 Challenger and its distinctive exterior styling could be just what you need.

Specifications

Four separate engines are available for the versatile 2011 Dodge Challenger. The 3.5-liter V6 gets 250 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque; the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 gets 280 hp and 260 lb-ft. A 5.7-liter Hemi V8 gets 376 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque; meanwhile, the 6.1-liter Hemi V8 gets a whopping 425 hp and 420 lb-ft. A five-speed automatic transmission and a six-speed manual transmission are both available on this rear-wheel drive coupe.

Performance

Considering all of the engine choices that are available with the 2011 Dodge Challenger, it's surprising to learn that it doesn't offer a very exciting driving experience. While it handles turns well, it lacks the finesse that makes for a truly exhilarating ride. Fast-paced city driving, then, is so-so; freeway driving, however, is fantastic. The cabin is serene and quiet, while the soft suspension mutes bumps and keeps everything smooth and easy. As long as you know what you're getting into, the Challenger could be a great choice.

Interior Features

As exciting as the exterior of the 2011 Dodge Challenger is, its interior is surprisingly dull. Other than a uniquely styled shifter knob, there's not a whole lot to get excited about here. Topnotch materials quality helps to offset this issue, though, as does the roomy backseat and large, 16.2 cubic-foot trunk. In terms of comfort, the front seats and backseat both shine. For long drives, the 2011 Challenger is a premium option.

Summary

A bevy of powerful engines makes the 2011 Dodge Challenger an exciting choice. Its starting MSRP is attractively low, but you'll pay a lot more for the more powerful engines. The comfortable and roomy interior makes this a great car for road trips. Cargo capacity is amazing for a vehicle of this kind, which is sure to thrill people who have a lot to carry around. Quiet, relaxing freeway driving is another major advantage of the 2011 Challenger and shouldn't be overlooked by anyone who's looking for a car in this class.

Lackluster acceleration - despite an array of powerful engines - makes the 2011 Dodge Challenger a bit of a disappointment. City driving just doesn't have the excitement that it should. Fuel economy is another sore spot; there are many other, more fuel efficient options out there in the same price neighborhood. A boring interior is sure to elicit yawns from many drivers; if interior styling is of the utmost importance to you, this car may not be right for you. All told, the 2011 Challenger is a middle-of-the-road vehicle.
