AM General Not Interested in Taking Hummer off of GM's Hands
Only days have passed since we last reported on this subject and we were feeling bullish about a relationship seemingly
made in heaven, but now it appears as though the perfect partnership is not going to happen after all, initially inspired or not.
A spokesperson from AM General, the original creator of the HMMWV military-spec vehicle which eventually became the Hummer H1, denied any interest in purchasing the sales and marketing rights of the brand back from General Motors, and went further to say that there have been no talks with China's Hunan Changfeng Motor Co. to jointly buy the brand, as initially reported.
NBC affiliate WNDU carried the report, a local station to South Bend, Indiana where AM General is headquartered and builds its heavy duty commercial-grade vehicles.
While not totally back to the drawing board, as Changfeng is reportedly still interested, GM won't be celebrating a windfall of much-needed cash this Christmas. As for consumers, there may be some excellent deals on Hummer cologne at your local drug store... a (believe it) great smelling stocking stuffer.
