Chrysler Groups Mopar Offers Performance Upgrades for Dodge SRT-4
Top-Grade Turbo Kit Delivers 300+HP and 320 LB-FT of Torque
As if the Dodge SRT-4 isnt quick enough out of the box, with 230 horsepower and 245 lb-ft of torque at its drivers disposal. Obviously Mopar Performance, Chrysler Groups parts and accessories division doesnt think so.
New this year is a complete line of performance upgrades engineered to pump more adrenaline into 2004s hottest sport compact. From turbocharger kits to enhanced suspension systems and transmission mods, Mopar can transform a superb performer in stock trim to a Subaru WRX STi killer.
“We engineered these parts with driving enthusiasts in mind,” said Dan Knott, Director - Street and Racing Technology. “Many aftermarket products for vehicles like the SRT-4 are focused on appearance. We arent ignoring that, but our main concern is improving the driving performance of this highly capable vehicle. And we do that through products designed by enthusiasts on our team who walk the talk when it comes to developing credible performance parts.
Knotts idea of walking the talk should have enthusiasts bowing down chanting “were not worthy.” First in the lineup is a $399 Stage 1 Turbo Upgrade Kit, which adds 10 horsepower and 15 lb-ft of torque to the stock turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, for a total output of 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
For those wanting more, Mopar offers a Stage 2 Turbo Upgrade Kit totaling 260 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque from 3,600 to 4,400 rpm, extremely low in the rev range (meaning quick off the line) compared to most of its imported rivals.
Option for this kit is a Turbo Toys upgrade, featuring three dash-mounted switches and the associated components to, first, automatically or manually spray water to cool the turbo intercooler, second, take advantage of 100+ octane unleaded fuel, and lastly adjust the boost of the turbo with via a dash-mounted dial.
The Stage 2 system with Turbo Toys makes 265 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque from 3,600 to 4,800 rpm. Take advantage of high-octane gas and 280 horsepower is available, again at 5,200 rpm, and 300 lb-ft of torque between 3,600 and 4,400 rpm. With Turbo Toys the Stage 2 kit costs $1,599, and without itll set you back $999.
The Stage 3 kit, not available until mid-June, is reported to produce more than 300 horsepower and approximately 320 lb-ft of torque through a much larger Mitsubishi-built turbocharger.
“Our extensive line of products from Mopar Performance hits a home run in adding to the performance leadership of the Dodge SRT-4,” Knott added.
Mopar also offers a 2.5-inch stainless steel Cat-Back Exhaust System, Blow-Off Valve Conversion Kit, various performance exhaust systems, coilover suspension kits, custom air filters, a limited slip differential, a short throw shifter kit, designed to work together with an upgraded performance clutch. An assortment of gauges and pods are also available, while those just wanting to spice up the engine bay for appearances sake can opt for special “2.4L Turbo” valve covers.
Chrysler Group is winning over driving enthusiasts from all age groups with its new SRT-4, and Mopars recent line of upgrades shows the automaker is serious about keeping its new performance customers loyal to the brand.
