Clint's "Gran Torino" to Star Classic '72 Muscle Car
Dirty Harry revisited? Not at all, but nevertheless Clint Eastwood, easily the coolest 78-year old in Hollywood, or anywhere
else for that matter, has another new movie. No, we're not talking about Changeling, in theaters now and starring Angelina Jolie, but rather his next blockbuster, Gran Torino.
It was during an interview about Changeling that Eastwood spoke about the new film for the first time. He plays Walt Kowalski, a racist Korean War veteran with a chip on his shoulder who bonds with a Hmong youth over his 1972 Ford Gran Torino.
According to USA Today, Eastwood describes Kowalski as “unflattering and potentially controversial”, and stated that the film “slams both prejudice and political correctness.”
“I'm a weirdo in it. I play a real racist... It's a great time in life (to do that) because, you know, what can they do to you once you're past 70? There's nothing they can do. But it also has redemption. This Hmong family moves in next door, and he has been in the Korean War, in the infantry, and looks down on Asian people and lumps everybody together. But finally they befriend him in his time of need because he has no relationship with his family.”Classic Clint? Well, maybe the kind of future classic that Eastwood wants to be remembered for. After all, he's an actor that's become extremely diverse over the years, not to mention a multiple Oscar-winning director.
Warner Bros is scheduling the film's release in NYC on Christmas Day, but no widespread release date for Gran Torino has been announced officially.
