Convertible Coming for Maserati GranTurismo
Maserati's GranTurismo, without argument, is a stunner. Its new exterior
takes the classy styling of the old Coupe and amplifies it with a look that could only be Italian. Backing up its beauty are brains and brawn; the GranTursimo is based off a shortened version of the extremely competent Quattroporte sedan platform, featuring the same potent Ferrari-developed 4.2-liter V8 engine and the brand new ZF six-speed automatic. And who could ignore the high-quality hand-crafted interior, customizable to the buyers' tastes?
As much as the GranTurismo turns heads, it's going to grab even more attention come March when it's unveiled without a roof. Just as the GranTurismo is the successor to the GT Coupe, Maserati needs something to follow up on its Spyder. One question that still remains is whether or not the car will feature a folding hardtop roof. Spy shots appear to confirm
this, which might mean that the Spyder won't feature the Coupe's rear seats or as much of its cargo capacity. Some insiders are speculating that this isn't the case, and that Maserati is saving the folding hardtop roof for a new two-seat sports model that will slide in under the GranTurismo.
