Ford Runs Updated 2010 Mustang at Kohler International Challenge

With Dodge's hot new Challenger hitting the streets and official images of the 2010

Chevrolet Camaro showing up on the internet, you can't blame Ford for wanting to stir up a bit of spirit for the upcoming model year 2010 facelift of its Mustang. The heavily refreshed car was on hand at this year's Kohler International Challenge vintage car race, the largest of its type in North America. The '10 Mustang acted as a pace car on Ford Mustang Day, leading the “Mustang Corral” around the Road America race circuit.

Although the new Mustang's nose and tail were covered with black vinyl and mesh, a close glimpse showed that it will feature wider headlamps with integrated turn signals, and a more aggressive grille, similar to that featured on 2006's Mustang Giugiaro Concept.

The latest reports suggest that the new Mustang won't be receiving a major revamp to its engine lineup until later in its life cycle. The turbocharged gasoline direct injection “EcoBoost” V6, as well as the high-performance 5.0-liter “Boss” engine are rumored to be on hold.

We'll have to wait for official information when it arrives later this year, but for Mustang enthusiasts it's a sign that something even better and stronger is on the way. The new Mustang is expected to be unveiled this autumn at the LA Auto Show.

In addition to the 2010 Mustang, Ford also brought out its entire revised 2009 model range, including the '09 Mustang Bullitt, the updated Focus, and a Fusion sedan with the “Blue Suede” package.
