Geneva Teasers: Euro Honda Accord and Mazda2 3-Door
It's hard to believe that even though the North American International Auto
Show in Detroit has just finished, the attention is shifting across the Atlantic to the next major event, Geneva, which is set to take place in early March. Here's a peek at two of the many introductions planned for the event.
Mazda will be showing off the three-door version of its subcompact 2 to join the 2 sedan that's being sold in China, and the five-door hatchback that is being sold in Europe. Besides its new body style, there isn't much new regarding the three-door model. Power comes from the same two gasoline engines, a 1.3-liter that makes 86 horsepower and a 1.5-liter that makes 103 horsepower. A turbodiesel engine will also be offered. Customers, particularly in the UK market, are pleading with Mazda to introduce a more powerful version of the car under the Mazdaspeed brand name; the three-door version of the little hatchback sounds like the perfect starting point.
Honda has also dropped a few hints for what to expect at Geneva with some teaser images of the upcoming European-market Accord, which will be sold here as the Acura TSX. From the snippets, we can see that the car shares a strong resemblance to the current vehicle as well as some of the more recently designed Acura products, and maintains a lot of the elements of design from the Accord Tourer Concept which was shown last fall in Frankfurt. As per our report earlier this week, the new Euro-Accord will tout gasoline and diesel power, and both engine types will be sold here in North America.
