High Performance, Low Cost: Saleen Launches new Value Brand
If you've ever wanted a fast Ford Mustang but couldn't get your hands on a
limited edition Shelby, or don't want to get your hands dirty building up an old 5.0-liter “Fox” car, then Saleen just might have the answer for you. The famed Ford tuner has just launched its first model under the new value-oriented RaceCraft division.
RaceCraft was the former name that Saleen used for its components, but now it's a brand unto itself. The idea is that one can walk into a Saleen specialist with $40,000 and walk out with a 420S and over a thousand dollars in change in his or her pockets.
The 420S model starts out life as a standard Mustang GT, but receives a supercharger and exhaust system that bump power up to 420 horsepower (hence the name). In addition, helping the vehicle live up to Saleen's legendary motorsport name, the car receives RaceCraft suspension
components (including dampers, sway bars and springs), 18-inch light alloy wheels that are wrapped in Bridgestone rubber. For those who want a little more power, Saleen also offers an upgrade package that bumps output up to 475 horsepower.
Each 420S also comes with a stripe package and interior changes including embroidered RaceCraft logos on the headrests, and unique RaceCraft instruments.
The thing to keep in mind with RaceCraft cars is that they're fully backed, and come with a 36 month or 36,000 mile warranty. One can upgrade the power to the aforementioned 475 horsepower model without voiding the factory-backed coverage.
