Honda to Produce Popular Accord at Additional U.S. Assembly Plant

Accord to Be Built on Same Line as Civic and Element in East Liberty Facility

Among the most popular vehicles being sold today, Hondas Accord has earned a strong base of loyal fans.

But with popularity comes manufacturing headaches, just how to keep up with demand. While most rival automakers would enjoy such problems, Honda announced it will build the Accord sedan at its East Liberty auto plant in addition to its two Marysville, Ohio plants to fulfill demand.

During the announcement the Honda spokesperson stated that producing the Accord at both locations would also increase the flexibility of each plant to manage market fluctuations.

At the press interview, John Adams, senior vice president and general manager of manufacturing at Honda of America, stated, "Being able to add and shift models quickly among our plants allows us to react in a timely way to the market."

An example of the modern assembly plant, the midsize Accord will be assembled on the same line that builds the compact Honda Civic and Element crossover SUV.

"Building many products on a common line, and doing so at high levels of quality and with relatively low investment, gives Honda an advantage in building vehicles to our customers tastes," added Adams.

Accord production will start in early 2005, at which time it will be seamlessly rolled into production without stopping Civic or Element production.
