Jeep Prices New Wrangler Unlimited Below $25,000
New Stretched Wheelbase Delivers More Back Seat and Cargo Room
Chrysler Group recently announced pricing for its all-new 2004.5 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. The new model, a stretched version of the venerable Wrangler, will be released with a manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) of $24,995, including the $610 destination charge.
Jeep makes getting in and out of the rear seat fairly easy unless youre extremely height challenged or face physical limitations. The front driver and passenger seats pop up and forward to clear a large path into the back.
Altogether 2 inches has been added between the two rows of seats to make rear passengers more comfortable. This is a result of 15-inches of additional length and an increase in wheelbase length of 10 inches to 103 inches. The added functionality results in a 13-inch longer cargo area.
"We set out to create more space for cargo and passengers, but the increase in wheelbase also improves the on-road ride and towing capability of the Wrangler Unlimited," explained Jaci Woody, Executive Engineer, Jeep Special Programs Engineering. "The added space broadens the appeal of the Wrangler Unlimited to customers who appreciate space and additional towing capability without compromising the character of the Wrangler."
The longer wheelbase also translates into a smoother ride, while delivering a best-in-class towing capability of 3,500 pounds, 1,500 pounds more trailer weight than the standard Wrangler.
But those concerned that the added length will reduce the Wrangler Unlimiteds off-road capabilities should rest at ease.
"The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited stays true to the legendary capability that has made the Wrangler the icon of the brand," commented Woody. "The additional 15 inches provided the right balance to add more second row seating comfort and cargo without compromising the Jeep 4x4 capability."
The Wrangler Unlimited incorporates the same upgraded 4.0-L inline 6-cylinder PowerTech engine that the regular Wrangler uses, a real workhorse that also delivers an extremely smooth idle. It produces 190-hp at 4,600 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque at a very flexible 3,200 rpm. The proven 42RLE 4-speed automatic gearbox takes care of shifting duties.
The Wrangler Unlimiteds sub-$25,000 price point should make it popular among off-road enthusiasts and stylish city slickers alike.
