Lamborghini Wants to Put Estoque Four-Door into Production

As if there was ever a question, Lamborghini, at least, is planning to put the Estoque four-door into production. But it's not that easy.

The supercar marque is owned by Audi, which is owned by Volkswagen, which is owned by Porsche. Lamborghini has got to sell its idea to the powers that be within its own hierarchy, and considering the global economic situation it's either going to be a slam dunk, with ultra-premium cars still selling relatively well, or a no-go if Audi or Volkswagen or Porsche thinks the market is too volatile to take any big chances.

Lamborghini has developed a business case for the car, however, which the company's research and development chief Maurizio Reggiani confirmed to British weekly magazine Autocar last week. If the plan gets the nod it will become available sometime in late 2011, and priced slightly higher than the Gallardo coupe.

In

order to make its business case stick, Lamborghini will need to take advantage of its familial relations and pull components and possibly even rolling stock from its Audi parent. No doubt it will use a Sant' Agata Bolognese-built powertrain, although two Audi's already use a detuned version of the Italian brand's V10, so at least the engine mounts are already in place.

Seriously though, Lamborghini will need to dig deep into the Audi parts bin and pull out all the necessary fittings to turn the Estoque from gorgeous concept into stunning reality, and to the positive, at  least Audi has some impressive components to sift through.
