New Truck-Based Cadillac Presidential Limo Being Built for Obama
What kind of limousine should a “green” President of the USA ride in? A big, bullet-proof, bomb-proof tank of a car, just
like any other President.
President-Elect Barack Obama has already made a name for himself by driving a Ford Escape Hybrid for his personal car, but that was before he became the next President. The next generation of “Cadillac One” will be even beefier than Pres. Bush's DTS limo, says the Boston Globe.
How much more beef? Start with a Chevy Topkick medium-duty truck frame and then add one flagship Cadillac limousine, replete with a cell phone jamming device, state-of-the-art blast-proof ceramic shields and five-inch thick glass, or at least that's what's expected. No one outside of its builders and the secret service will get close enough to the car to find out such details, after all.
Being that GM is building the vehicle, a leader in hybrid technology, there is a possibility the new model will come with the same two-mode hybrid system offered in the 2009 Cadillac Escalade. With plenty of power for quick getaways and the ability to run longer on a tank of gas, not to mention the need to set a greener example, it only makes sense.
