Nissan's 2009 370Z Gets Official 332 Horsepower
News about Nissan's new 370Z has been slow coming, with the Japanese automaker scant on details about the new car
before its Los Angeles Auto Show debut next week. Nevertheless, the company leaked some VQ37 engine specs that should pique the interest of prospective buyers.
The 370Z's 3.7-liter V6 will be good for 332-horsepower, making it the most potent factory-tuned Z ever. What's more, it will be a hair more powerful than the 330-hp Infiniti G37 that preceded it, while the car is quite a bit lighter, making for a more sporting character.
A trend away from the “bigger is better” philosophy most car manufacturers adhere to is refreshing, as is the continuation of Nissan's slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission. The updated DIY gearbox, however, will reportedly incorporate the same rev-matching logarithm that the automatic enjoys when downshifting, so you can sound like a pro while rowing more smoothly through the gears.
Those looking for a less taxing driving experience will be able to opt for Nissan's new seven-speed automatic with paddle-shifters.
