Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe Concept to Debut at SEMA

Some enthusiasts are adamant that a sports car isn't a sports car unless it only has two seats and a folding roof, while others would

never opt for a drop-top because of an equivalent coupe's stiffer, more rigid construction, benefiting performance. Rather than only pander to one camp, Pontiac is about to satisfy both with the new Solstice Coupe.

Drumming up a little pre-LA hype, Pontiac will take the wrapper off Solstice GXP Coupe Concept at Las Vegas' Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) show, expected to closely resemble the production model.

The OEMs have been getting more and more involved creating aftermarket parts, seeing this segment as potentially more profitable than automotive sales (what isn't these days). Therefore the Solstice GXP Coupe Concept will feature GM Performance Parts' Stage 2 performance kit, an intake kit, plus a cat-back exhaust system, which collectively boosts output from 260 horsepower to 290.

The suspension has been tuned as well, while a graphics kit spices up the body panels and customized leather gives the cabin a richer appearance. Race-style pedal covers and an iPod interface add to the upscale feel, and work together to provide sports coupe lovers something more suitable to their tastes.
