New & Used Pontiac Cars, Parts & Reviews

The Pontiac brand was one of the first-ever automobile brands ever made. Began in 1899 by Albert North and Harry Hamilton, the Pontiac brand created its first prototype automobile by 1907. By 1909, General Motors took over controlling ownership, and the Pontiac brand became popular with consumers. Its first cars generated 40 horsepower, and by the 1930s Pontiacs were among the best selling cars in the United States. |
Pontiac went through a variety of incarnations, with reputations for lack of power and speed and then quite the opposite over the course of the 20th century. Its Grand Prix, LeMans and Trans Am models generated popularity among the public, but General Motors could not keep the brand running for good. By late 2009, General Motors opted to completely cease production on the Pontiac line to fend off bankruptcy concerns. |
