Porsche 911 GT2 RS: Fastest Street-Legal Sports Car Ever Built

Porsche will display a new limited-edition 911 GT2 RS, of which only 500 will be made, at the Moscow Auto Show. The potent RS will be the most powerful and quickest street-legal vehicle Porsche has ever made. Relative to the current GT2, the RS has 90 more horsepower, weighs 154 pounds less, uses five percent less fuel (achieves a fuel rating of 23.7 mpg), and produces five percent less CO2.

The blistering performance of the RS will astound even the most exacting Porsche enthusiasts. With 620 horsepower, the RS has a curb weight of 3,020 pounds, allowing it to accomplish 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds and 0-124 mph in only 9.8 seconds. The RS’ top speed is 205 mph, and Porsche claims that the car has already conquered the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in seven minutes and 18 seconds. The base price for the 911 GT2 RS is roughly $254,000. Americans can expect the RS to hit showrooms in October of 2010.

Under the Hood

The RS’ engine is Porsche’s standard 3.6-liter inline-six driven by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry coursing through a six-speed manual gearbox and pushing the power to special 325/30 ZR 19 tires designed especially for the GT2 RS. The stopping power of the new RS is also nothing to sneeze at, thanks to its PCCB composite ceramic brakes. The ride is controlled by the Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management system and Porsche stability management.

Exterior

In appearance, the GT2 RS sets itself apart from the traditional 911 GT2 with the generous use of carbon-fiber-reinforced parts in a matte-black surface finish, wide wheels, front flared wheel arches, new light-alloy wheels, and GT2 RS badges on the rear lid and doors. The front and rear spoiler lips are also 0.4 inches higher, also in surface carbon finish, to guarantee aerodynamic accuracy in addition to extra downforce.

Interior

The interior of the 911 GT2 RS reeks of sporting performance, flaunting its high-speed, elite status in almost every detail. The interior features lightweight door panels with door-opening straps and lightweight buckets seats composed of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic in the carbon surface finish. The primary color of the interior is black, which contrasts nicely with features like the segments on the steering wheel rim, the seat center portions, and the roof lining. The handbrake and gear shifter both have red alcantara finishes.
