Production Camaro Could Debut before End of Summer

The first units of Dodge's modern-retro pony car, the Challenger SRT8 have just

rolled off the assembly line and are on the way to their rightful owners. And it won't be long 'til another muscle car comes along to challenge it and the Ford Mustang - Chevy's Camaro. It's been a long and painstaking wait for the production version of the Camaro, but the end appears to be in sight.

It was thought for quite some time that the production Camaro would make its grand debut in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show. It appears now that it might come early - so far as we know, the production car will make a showing at this year's Indy '08 Back at the Brickyard event in mid September. GM will show the entire Camaro lineup at the event, including different models with different engines, as well as a variety of new colors. Sounds like the stuff Camaro enthusiasts' dreams are made of.

As has been the case for previous Camaro-related unveilings, such as at Detroit in '06, enthusiasts will be on hand. The event is being organized by the Central Indiana Camaro Club; thousands of Camaro and Firebird owners flock to the event on a yearly basis.

However, General Motors hasn't confirmed the announcement and it's possible that the sports car may make its debut prior to the Brickyard event. Meanwhile, GM might have something big in store for Detroit... perhaps a high-performance SS model to combat the likes of the Challenger SRT8 and Shelby GT500?
