Three New Cadillac Models on the Way

The planned expansion of the Cadillac CTS family is underway. From the sedan that was launched last year and crowned Motor Trend’s Car of the Year will come two other body styles within the next year.

Predictions regarding a CTS station wagon were confirmed earlier this year when photos of the hot new five-door leaked onto the internet, and more recently at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance where the car was introduced  to the world. The wagon keeps much of the sharp styling of the sedan, but offers up more cargo space and increased practicality. With increasing interest in affordable luxury station wagons, the CTS wagon could be Cadillac’s ticket to increased sales numbers outside of North America. That said, the CTS wagon will be sold on this continent too. Production is expected to start at the beginning of next year, and should be available around the globe by autumn.

The second CTS offering was previewed at Detroit this year - the CTS Coupe. The two-door has gotten the green light, although it won’t be offered until sometime next year. With sharp styling, powerful engines and a chassis that’s competitive, Cadillac will have something to fight off the popular BMW 3-Series Coupe and Audi A5. A V-series version of the Coupe is also expected to be offered, powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 LSA engine.

While it won’t be a direct member of the CTS family, Cadillac’s SRX replacement is also on the way. Using the Theta Premium platform it shares its internals with the upcoming Saab 9-4x. Unlike the Saab, which uses a turbocharged 2.8-liter V6, the SRX will use the 3.6-liter V6 from the CTS. Cadillac wants the second generation SRX to sell in ways that the current car hasn’t been able to. Sales targets are pegged at 70,000 units per year, more than twice that of what the car is currently achieving.
