Sales of Lexus GX 460 Halted Due to Rollover Risk
Toyota announced yesterday that it will halt the sale of its Lexus GX 460 SUV after Consumer Reports found that the vehicle carried an extraordinarily high rollover risk during specific kinds of turns.
In the most recent scandal to strike Toyota, the Japanese carmaker reports that it will cease sales of the Lexus SUV while it performs its own tests.
Consumer Reports claims in handling tests that the seven-passenger Lexus SUV slid until it was almost sideways before it regained its balance with its electronic stability controls system.
The magazine believes that this problem could lead to a rollover incident in real-life driving. The magazine assigned a rare “Don’t Buy: Safety Risk” label to the Lexus GX 460 until Toyota fixes the problem.
In the three months it has been on sale, Toyota has sold approximately 5,000 Lexus GX460 SUVs. The vehicle is not included in Toyota’s faulty accelerator recalls.
