Travelers Company Review

Traveler's insurance company began in 1964 as the first insurance company to offer protection against accident of various types. Now approaching 150 years of that service, the company is still going strong and is one of the nation's largest policy writers for auto, life and personal injury protection insurance policies. But are they worth your dime? On the surface, it is surprisingly difficult to find any positive customer ratings of Travelers insurance, and painfully easy to find testimonials from bitter customers who seem to have been burned by the service. Most of the complaints seem to be geared, not towards the actual customer service or company strength, so much as what it is that happens after you file your first claim with them. There are numerous reports of customers with years of service receiving a significant spike in their policy premiums after an accident. Some policies are even canceled. JD Power gives Travelers insurance a mediocre rating, which makes us wonder what it is that keeps this company so strong and on top of the car insurance game.

More than Just Auto Insurance

It is the auto insurance line of Travelers that seems to receive the most complaints, but looking deeper, you will see that the other types of insurance policies that are written by the company have an extremely high satisfaction rating. Insurance types such as personal injury protection and life insurance are reviewed very highly by customers. These are insurance plans and polices that do not receive and need to pay claims nearly as often as auto insurance, (and in the case of life insurance, it is usually only paid once). It is possible that the focus for Travelers insurance rests on divisions outside their auto insurance line, which may account for the great disparity in customer satisfaction reviews. Travelers insurance receives an "OK" rating as far as the financial strength of the company is concerned during these rough economic times. An "A+" rating is nothing to scoff at, but it is not exceptionally strong, either. Again, this is another feature that seems to be at odds with the company's overall strength and position in the U.S. insurance industry Customer service ratings for Travelers insurance also score average and mediocre, with just as many compliments and praise, as condemnation and dissatisfaction. It seems that deciding to go with or use this insurance company brings just as much possibility of reward as it does risk depending on why you are tuning to the company for your insurance needs. We see no alternative but to offer the company a rating of B-.
