Five Companies to Consider for Low Cost Car Insurance

Some auto insurers are known for their customer service, others for their policy options, and some for their affordability. If cost is a top priority in an auto policy for you, you are more likely to find low cost car insurance with certain carriers than others. Remember, though, that a low cost auto insurance policy is not always the best policy. Poor-quality car insurance policies may actually end up costing you more down the road, so try to balance your cost concerns with an emphasis on quality. Here is a list of five carriers you might consider for high-quality coverage with low car insurance rates.

  1. Amica Mutual. Amica Mutual is a small carrier headquartered in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Often, with small auto insurers, you have a better chance of finding the lowest car insurance rates. On the J.D. Power auto insurer ratings, policyholders rated Amica five out of five stars in the pricing category as well as the overall satisfaction category.
  2. GEICO. GEICO has made a name for itself by promising customers they will save by switching insurers. GEICO does in fact offer a number of low cost car insurance policies, and the company earned four out of five stars in the pricing satisfaction category on the J.D. Power ratings. In overall satisfaction, however, GEICO only earned a score of three out of five. GEICO is a subsidiary of the Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group, which is the third-largest auto insurer in the nation.
  3. The Hartford. Although not well-known among consumers, The Hartford is a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest providers of low cost auto insurance. Hartford auto insurance policyholders gave it four out of five stars in pricing satisfaction and three out of five stars in overall satisfaction on the J.D. Power auto insurance survey. If you’re willing to accept coverage from a lesser-known insurer, Hartford can offer very low auto insurance rates.
  4. State Farm. If you prefer to stick with big-name auto insurers, State Farm offers relatively low auto insurance rates for a major insurer. The State Farm group is the number-one writer of car insurance policies in the United States, so you can trust that the company will have a strong network of offices and agents to serve you. In the J.D. Power auto insurer ratings, State Farm earned a score of three out of five for pricing satisfaction and four out of five for overall satisfaction.
  5. Allstate. Allstate isn’t exactly renowned for the lowest car insurance rates, but they do offer a high level of quality and service relative to their premiums. In other words, Allstate can provide a lot of bang for your buck. In addition, if you are currently an excelling student, you may be able to qualify for cheap student car insurance (this also applies to other insurance carriers). Allstate is more of a long-term low cost car insurance company because initially the premiums may be higher, but if you have to file a claim, you will be glad you chose Allstate. On the latest J.D. Power survey, Allstate earned three out of five stars in both pricing and overall satisfaction.
